Théâtre ? Danse ? Musique ? Performance ? Fanny de Chaillé depuis longtemps s’est émancipée des questions de genre, croise les arts et les codes sans complexe et remixe avec malice avant-garde, tradition et pratiques populaires. Dans Je suis un metteur en scène japonais, titre piqué au roman de Dany Laferrière, elle met en scène sa vision fantasmée du bunraku. « Je ne suis jamais allée au Japon, mais depuis plusieurs mois je lis des textes sur le théâtre japonais et dès que je rencontre une personne qui a vu du no, du kabuki ou du bunraku, je l’interroge et lui demande de me décrire ce qu’elle a vu. » racontait-elle au moment de la création. « Je veux faire une pièce à partir de ce fantasme que je construis au fur et à mesure de mes lectures, de mes rencontres. » Mariant le vieil art des marionnettes japonais au texte de Minetti, pièce de Thomas Bernhard sur l’art et la condition d’artiste, elle a concocté sur un tempo d’ukulélé une drôle de parodie de bunraku, court-circuitée par une conférence sur l’origami avec une danseuse pour feuille de papier à plier ou l’irruption d’une geisha à l’éventail. Bref, elle interroge les artifices du théâtre à sa manière : facétieuse et inventive.
