Comment votre collaboration avec Michel Onfray est-elle née ?
Jean Lambert-wild : En arrivant à la Comédie de Caen, j’ai pris acte de la présence de Michel Onfray sur ce territoire. Il est bientôt venu tous les lundis, de 19h à 21h, avec l’université populaire au Théâtre d’Hérouville. Ca a été le début. Nous nous sommes plu. Puis est née une vraie amitié. Ce texte fait apparaître un Michel Onfray qu’on ne connait pas et qu’on devine seulement dans les préfaces de ses livres. C’est un texte où il se met en jeu, en danger. Ce qui est formidable, c’est que ce grand poème est déjà un succès de librairie avant même la création du spectacle !
C’est un spectacle que vous créez à plusieurs. Pourquoi ?
J. L.-w. : En figure iconique du rebelle, il fallait un danseur. J’ai demandé à Carolyn Carlson de chorégraphier cette figure du rebelle, de l’hyperboréen. La rencontre avec elle a été un choc électrique. Avec elle, avec Jean-Luc Therminarias et François Royet sont nées des images magnifiques, comme toujours quand plusieurs participent à une utopie. Nous rentrons dans une époque où les systèmes sont complexes. Comment les traduire poétiquement et politiquement ? Les artistes ont commencé à se poser cette question et à interroger la manière de la résoudre dans leur art. Or, la résolution d’un système complexe ne peut se faire que par la communauté de création. Et ce phalanstère de création trouve une adhésion auprès du public.
« L’enthousiasme est le remède. »
Pourquoi avoir aujourd’hui « recours aux forêts » ?
J. L.-w. : On vit dans une époque de désenchantement et de peur. On entend répéter qu’il n’y a pas d’avenir, plus de lutte des classes, plus d’Histoire et que plus rien n’inscrit la possibilité d’une victoire. Or je crois que la nécessité dans laquelle nous sommes, qui ne nous offre pas le luxe de l’optimisme, ne nous offre pas non plus celui du pessimisme. L’enthousiasme est le remède. Dans ce monde égaré où on ne sait pas où porter ses utopies, l’utopie est justement dans l’enthousiasme, dans l’amitié. Pour être libre, il faut affirmer que la sérénité triomphera. Non pas par la résistance mais par l’enthousiasme, en pariant sur la biodiversité des esprits et en ranimant les rituels.
Ce recours est-il nostalgique ?
J. L.-w. : Autant la nostalgie est importante comme point de repère individuel, comme rapport à l’enfance, autant elle est sans force politique. Au théâtre, je n’en vois pas l’intérêt. Quel sens cela aurait-il de ne pas faire un théâtre d’aujourd’hui ? Ce qu’il faut, c’est repenser nos actions politiques au théâtre en comprenant comment rassembler les gens et comment créer des communautés d’esprit. Michel Onfray remplit le théâtre tous les lundis soirs : pourquoi n’arriverions-nous pas à faire, nous autres hommes de théâtre, ce que lui parvient à faire seul ? Ca me bouleverse qu’il y ait encore cette possibilité-là dans la philosophie d’aujourd’hui. Qu’est-ce qui fait l’enthousiasme et le nourrit ? L’idée du Recours aux forêts est dans cette énergie-là.
Cette œuvre est-elle joyeuse ?
J. L.-w. : Elle est puissante et chargée d’émotion. C’est joyeux parce qu’on retrouve quelque chose mais on s’aperçoit aussi de ce qu’on a perdu. Il y a une magie qui comme toute magie fonctionne par contradiction. Ce spectacle n’est pas joyeux mais permet de vivre une expérience intense qui entraîne une joie.
