Comment ce spectacle est-il né ?
Jean Lambert-wild : On écrit un texte parce qu’il y a une rencontre, une émotion, une histoire, un amour… Ça ne vient pas de nulle part et ça ne va pas nulle part. Un texte est une conversation ; un monologue n’est pas un soliloque. La conversation avec Yann-Fañch Kemener a commencé il y a longtemps. Il est sans doute le plus grand chanteur de langue bretonne (on l’appelle la « voix d’or » de la Bretagne), et c’est un homme extraordinaire de gentillesse et d’intelligence. Un soir de 2005, je l’ai entendu dans la chapelle paroissiale de Ploërmel, et je me suis dit : nous avons quelque chose à faire ensemble, mais cet homme ne le sait pas encore ! Je suis très patient et je peux attendre des années le signe propice. La Maison de la Poésie m’a appelé en mai en me proposant de venir chez eux. Quitte à porter une ambition, je voulais faire quelque chose avec Yann-Fañch Kemener. Et, le même jour, j’ai reçu un coup de fil d’une amie qui me proposait de le rencontrer ! Rapidement, nous nous sommes parlé et les choses se sont mises en place comme une évidence.
L’Ombelle du trépassé : pourquoi ce titre ?
J. L.-w. : L’ombelle est cette tige qui se termine en plusieurs rameaux. Je crois qu’un mort est le dessein de plusieurs autres vies. Ce texte est une complainte des trépassés, dans une perspective qu’on peut dire stoïcienne. Il y a des joies qu’on ne peut refuser, et une est certaine, c’est qu’on va mourir. Soit on considère cela comme un désastre, soit comme une séparation car d’autres vies s’enchaînent derrière la sienne. L’humanité triomphe dans la continuité et la transmission des choses. Que nous disent les fantômes et les morts pour que nous continuions le principe de notre humanité ? Tout cela n’est pas affaire de religion : c’est une conversation que nous entretenons pour ne pas rompre une chaîne. J’ai voulu que Yann-Fañch soit l’interprète vocal et chanté de cette conversation. Je me suis imprégné en profondeur de tout ce qu’il avait glané et chanté. Je l’ai accompagné et écouté, pour inventer, comme un oratorio, cette conversation entre la parole d’un mort et la voix chantée d’un vivant.

De quoi parle le texte ?
J. L.-w. : Je voulais que mon texte parle d’aujourd’hui. C’est intéressant qu’un mort parle d’aujourd’hui, de cet aveuglement, de cette allégeance aux assassins, de ce déni de tout. Comment en parler politiquement, comment créer un chant ? Un homme, en haut d’une colonne, chante et converse : je crois que plus les temps seront durs, plus on aura besoin d’un cri en haut d’une colonne. Mais j’ai voulu trouver un chant qui ne soit pas une antienne de mort générant la peur et clamant le désastre. La colonne d’air et de mots permet cette conversation entre un vivant et un mort et autorise la réconciliation, cette affaire essentielle qu’on a trop tendance à oublier et qui permet pourtant de rester ferme et de ne pas accepter les compromis. Et puis, j’ai aussi rajouté deux ou trois effets de magie, et pas seulement parce que j’adore ça ! Dans cette mystique non religieuse, dans cet « athanor » païen, comme dit Michel Onfray, il fallait absolument qu’il y ait des mystères…
