« N’écoutez pas Jean-Luc Fillon en pensant qu’il joue d’un instrument peu utilisé en jazz. Il n’a pas besoin de ce genre « d’indulgence », son talent de compositeur et d’improvisateur fait rapidement oublier l’instrument. » Le compliment n’est pas de n’importe qui mais de Martial Solal en personne. Et il est vrai qu’ils sont rares les musiciens de jazz à avoir fait du hautbois leur instrument de prédilection. Soliste à l’Orchestre Symphonique d’Europe à la fin des années 80, Jean-Luc Fillon a très vite élargi sa palette stylistique au contact de figures des musiques improvisées comme Bob Mintzner, Patrice Caratini ou Glenn Ferris. De ce background amphibie entre jazz et musique classique, celui qu’on surnomme « Oboman » a gardé l’envie de faire fi des frontières et de plonger la tête la première dans les aventures les plus transversales.
Depuis trois ans, il a ainsi entamé une fertile collaboration avec Didier Ithursarry. Membre de l’Orchestre National de Jazz de Claude Barthélemy entre 2002 et 2005, ce maestro du piano à bretelles a joué autant avec Sanseverino qu’avec Louis Sclavis. Ensemble, ils suivent les pas de Michel Portal et Richard Galliano en prouvant à quel point le mariage bois-accordéon peut se révéler heureux.
