On suit de près dans ces pages le projet artistique de ce musicien mutant, développant avec acharnement et inspiration le projet de faire entrer ses instruments – le hautbois et le cor anglais – dans le monde du jazz. « Je souhaite révéler au jazz et aux musiques improvisées la richesse sonore, l’authenticité et le lyrisme de ces instruments jusqu’alors confinés dans les musiques de tradition écrite » souligne-t-il. En liant son projet à celui du bassoniste américain Michaël Rabinovitz, dont la démarche est très proche de la sienne, Fillon-le défricheur procure soudain à sa démarche une légitimité et visibilité nouvelles. Ce quintet franco-américain baptisé « On the reed… again » interroge avec des arguments sonores jamais entendus une certaine idée du jazz contemporain, intense, inventive et fraîche, aidé en cela par l’engagement total de ses musiciens : Michael Felberbaum (guitare), Bruno Rousselet (contrebasse) et Karl Jannuska (batterie). L’album est sorti chez Cristal records.
