« L’œuvre de Zappa est une œuvre ultime, à la fois protéiforme et unique, miroitant de multiples facettes mais toujours homogène : un diamant. Cette fois-ci, le mélange ne serait plus culturel mais stylistique : retrouver dans un même univers la guitare et ses affects rock, les cordes et les vents de l’orchestre « classique » et leur délicatesse, mais aussi toutes les musiques que Frank Zappa intégrait en permanence dans son travail de compositeur : Bela Bartok et Ravel, le doowap et le Blues, Igor Stravinsky et Edgar Varèse, le Rythm&Blues et le Jazz. La liste est infinie… Mieux encore, essayer de rendre possible une réelle fusion aussi bien des différents styles musicaux que des différents points de vue : musiques savantes et musiques populaires, musiques électriques et musiques acoustiques. « The Big Note », c’est tenter de faire entendre la musique de Frank Zappa autrement, c’est essayer de prolonger le travail du maître en mélangeant encore plus les timbres, en donnant un tour supplémentaire à son incessant travail d’arrangeur, en stimulant les enthousiasmes de tous les musiciens pour faire sonner cette Note et tenter de contribuer à faire connaître encore mieux ce compositeur hors normes qu’est Frank Zappa ».
