On le sait depuis bien longtemps déjà, depuis le succès fulgurant il y a 30 ans de son premier trio (avec les frères Moutin), Machado est un musicien qui aime surprendre, grâce notamment à sa capacité à multiplier les propositions très différentes, et un authentique compositeur. « J’essaie d’inventer des univers musicaux. Pour cela, il faut fuir les conventions, trouver son chemin en dehors des esthétiques préétablies » confirme-t-il. Après ses propositions récentes en duo avec l’accordéoniste Didier Ithursarry, les Pictures for orchestra de son grand Orchestre Danzas, ou encore ses Impulse Songs pour percussions (on en oublie forcément !), Jean-Marie Machado vient de composer L’esprit de l’eau, suite en cinq tableaux pour piano et tuba solistes et orchestre symphonique. L’œuvre sera logiquement créée sur la scène du Centre des bords de Marne du Perreux où Machado est compositeur associé, servie par François Thuillier au tuba, l’Orchestre National d’Île-de-France dirigé par Bastien Still et lui-même au piano, avec pour projet de « donner à la musique la présence de l’esprit de l’eau et créer une sculpture sonore, une promenade sensitive ». Au même programme, après l’entracte, un chef-d’œuvre de la musique française, en parfaite résonance aquatique : La mer de Debussy.
