« Pour avoir mis en scène, il y a plusieurs années, les deux précédentes pièces d’Arlette Namiand, j’ai immédiatement ressenti Ombres portées comme une transposition – par la figure des « portés », par le langage des corps – de l’errance et de la fureur contenues dans l’écriture de ces deux autres œuvres. Bien qu’indépendantes comme des nouvelles, les cinq histoires de ce nouveau texte ont en commun de mettre en lumière des personnages en situation de fuite. Tous portent, emportent dans leurs bras, là une mariée, ici une amante, ou encore une sœur, un père, un ami, un ennemi… pour d’étranges épopées. Avant de prendre la tangente, ces personnages ont dans chaque histoire transgressé quelque chose – une loi, une règle, un usage – et prononcé ainsi un écart irréductible par rapport à l’ordre social. En mettant en chantier Ombres portées avec six acteurs, j’ai pu éprouver, dès le premier passage au plateau, toute la puissance poétique, toute la beauté de ces figures portants/portés qui provoquaient une émotion, un vertige particulier, un « être là » puissant, une énigme aussi.
Un espace qui décentre et prolonge le plateau
D’où venaient-ils, qui étaient-ils, où allaient-ils ? Ce qui était frappant, et immédiatement théâtral, c’était ce paradoxe entre des situations parfois limites, conflictuelles, tragiques même qu’exprimait l’écriture, et la tendresse, la sensualité, la force d’humanité de ces « portés », de ces corps imbriqués l’un dans l’autre… Pour mettre en scène Ombres portées, j’ai pensé que le plateau seul, dans son dispositif frontal habituel, ne donnerait pas suffisamment la sensation de traversée, de lieu de passage contenue dans la pièce d’Arlette Namiand. J’ai donc expérimenté un dispositif bi-frontal, un espace qui décentre et prolonge le plateau, donnant ainsi à l’imaginaire un champ plus ouvert. Et puis, au centre de ce chantier, s’est imposée la nécessité de travailler avec un chorégraphe pour donner à ces figures toute leur puissance poétique. La rencontre avec le danseur et chorégraphe Thierry Thieû Niang a été déterminante, un moment rare au cours duquel il a déployé, à partir du texte, un imaginaire très sensible des corps dans l’espace. »
