Un jeu de miroir comme les aimait Ravel, ce programme offre un passionnant va-et-vient entre œuvres originales pour piano (jouées par Jean-Philippe Collard) et réécritures orchestrales (dirigées par Laurent Petitgirard). Originales, Gaspard de la Nuit de Ravel et les Tableaux d’une exposition de Moussorgski le sont tout autant : œuvres très personnelles, alternant l’alerte et le sombre, extrêmement virtuoses et en même temps tout en limpidité. De véritables défis à l’orchestration. S’y sont pourtant attelés, avec une égale réussite, deux compositeurs de grande classe. On connaît bien la flamboyante réalisation de Ravel devenue plus célèbre que le cycle original de Moussorgski ; l’orchestration de Gaspard de la Nuit par Marius Constant (1925-2004) mériterait au moins le même succès tant elle sait traduire en couleurs d’orchestre la finesse de l’écriture de Ravel, qui n’aurait sans doute pas renié ce travail.
