Niché au cœur d’un passionnant quatuor à cordes de type nouveau, qui tend à pencher vers le grave (contrebasse-violoncelle-alto-violon), Jean-Philippe Viret met en dialogue dans son nouvel opus cinq compositions personnelles et quatre pièces pour clavecin de François Couperin arrangées pour ses musiciens. Viret voue depuis longtemps une admiration particulière au grand compositeur baroque français. « Debussy parle à son sujet du « plus poète de nos clavecinistes, dont la tendre mélancolie semble l’adorable écho venu du fond mystérieux des paysages où s’attristent les personnages de Watteau». Je suis moi aussi très réceptif à cette poésie musicale », confie le contrebassiste, qui ajoute : « La musique de François Couperin me touche d’autant plus que, quand on l’écoute avec une instrumentation déconnectée de l’époque baroque, cette œuvre me semble complétement intemporelle, me procurant le plaisir supplémentaire de ressentir des affinités qui voyagent dans le temps ». Avec Jean-Philippe Viret (contrebasse), Éric-Maria Couturier (violoncelle), David Gaillard (alto) et Sébastien Surel (violon). Inclassable et délectable.
