Pourquoi avoir choisi Pinocchio comme héros de votre nouvelle création ?
Jean-Pierre Lescot : Ce personnage attire nécessairement tout marionnettiste qui s’interroge sur son art. L’histoire de Pinocchio est montée par beaucoup de marionnettistes, chacun cherchant sa manière propre de le voir. Ce qui m’intéresse surtout dans cette histoire, c’est le rapport entre ce petit personnage et son père, Geppetto. Au début, Geppetto, qui n’a pas eu d’enfants, ne les aime pas parce qu’ils se moquent de lui. C’est pour cela qu’il décide de fabriquer une marionnette. Au début, entre eux deux, règne l’indifférence mais peu à peu, ils découvrent la tendresse et l’amitié. Pinocchio est un enfant sauvage, un enfant de la blessure, de la douleur : il se brûle, a faim, souffre. Mais il y a en lui une force vitale qui le fait rivaliser de courage, de volonté : il devient l’enfant de l’affection et à la fin c’est lui qui aide son père.
Et la fée ?
J.-P. L. : Sans négliger la fée bien sûr ! Mais en la réinterprétant et en lui donnant le rôle d’une personne à l’écoute de la pauvreté, de la fragilité des êtres, en n’insistant pas, comme dans le livre de Collodi, sur son aspect féerique mais en choisissant une femme attentive aux blessures de la vie. Car cette histoire est aussi celle de la capacité de l’espérance à surmonter les menaces du désespoir. Et c’est important de l’apprendre aux enfants qui ont devant eux l’aventure de leur vie.

Qu’a de particulier « votre » Pinocchio ?
J.-P. L. : Il est théâtralisé, mis en scène dans un théâtre de papier et d’ombres, au cœur même des techniques de l’enchantement. Avec Didier de Calan, j’ai réécrit l’histoire et nous l’avons adaptée sans la réactualiser. Nous voulions rester en phase avec l’époque de Collodi où les enfants n’avaient pas le statut d’enfants et où dans toute l’Europe, des voix s’élevaient (Dickens, Hugo, Malo) pour dénoncer leur sort. Et cette histoire n’est pas terminée car il y a toujours des enfants qui subissent la misère et l’incohérence de nos discours d’adultes. A la différence de Collodi néanmoins chez qui c’est la morale qui guide Pinocchio, nous avons voulu que ce soit l’amour qui le sauve. Je ne veux pas donner de leçons de morale mais seulement créer un moment d’enchantement et de réconciliation.
Pouvez-nous nous parler du Théâtre Roublot ?
J.-P. L. : Le Théâtre Roublot est une grande chance pour nous ! C’est un théâtre conventionné, soutenu par le Conseil Général et attribué à la compagnie Jean-Pierre Lescot. Il constitue un véritable pôle de la marionnette en Val-de-Marne et est très implanté dans la ville de Fontenay-sous-Bois. La marionnette et le théâtre d’ombres constituent la spécificité de ce lieu, petit théâtre d’art et d’essais, affirmant la diversité des genres, des techniques et du public. Nous ne nous contentons pas d’une programmation mais nous organisons aussi des stages, des expositions en tâchant d’établir des passerelles avec les autres formes d’art et les technologies nouvelles, notamment celles de la lumière. Le but est de faire mieux connaître cet art ancestral qu’est la marionnette, au cœur et à l’origine de notre besoin d’images et du besoin de l’humanité de se raconter des histoires.
