C’est à la saisissante rencontre en duo de deux musiciens inscrits dans l’Histoire du jazz que nous convoque cette soirée au Studio 104 : le guitariste John Scofield et le contrebassiste Dave Holland. Ces deux musiciens au pédigree magnifique en tant que leader ont en commun d’avoir fait partie l’un et l’autre de groupes de Miles Davis. Holland à la fin des années 60 (il figure sur les albums Filles du Kilimanjaro, In a Silent Way et Bitches Brew), Scofield bien plus tard, de 1982 à 1985, par exemple pour l’album Decoy où il signait dans « That’s Right » un solo mémorable… Mais l’on peut compter sur ces deux « vétérans », que l’on avait déjà entendus ensemble en quartet avec Joe Lovano et Al Foster, pour ne pas somnoler en ressassant les souvenirs. Leur répertoire en duo sera dominé par des compositions originales de leur plume, ponctuées de quelques standards bien choisis. En première partie, on pourra sans peine succomber au jazz de chambre tout en fragrances et fulgurances du trio du saxophoniste ténor Matthieu Bordenave, avec le pianiste allemand Florian Weber et le contrebassiste suisse Patrice Moret, dont l’album « La Traversée » vient de paraître chez ECM.
