En mars 2009, invité à diriger le Troisième Concerto pour piano de Bartók, Josep Pons avait choisi d’en confier la partie soliste à Elena Bashkirova, parfaite dans cette œuvre toute en lyrisme et en élans romantiques contenus. De retour à la tête de l’Orchestre de Paris, le chef espagnol dirige cette fois le Deuxième Concerto, davantage marqué par la vigueur rythmique et l’éclat des timbres. En toute logique, c’est à un pianiste possédant les qualités appropriées qu’il s’associe en la personne de Boris Berezovsky, sans doute le plus parfait héritier aujourd’hui de la grande école russe de virtuoses. Le reste du programme est un feu d’artifice ravélien, avec trois œuvres « espagnoles » (Alborada del gracioso, Rapsodie espagnole, Boléro) et le magnifique cycle Shéhérazade chanté par Nora Gubisch.
