C’est la journée de noces de Nelly, une journée durant laquelle les bombes n’ont pas cessé de tomber. Alors, l’entourage de la jeune fille décide de s’inventer un rêve : un rêve qui voudrait faire croire que la vie est belle et lumineuse, que les sifflements des obus ne sont rien d’autre que les bruits d’un grand feu d’artifices. « Journée de noces chez les Cromagnons n’est pas une pièce de plus sur la vie d’une famille ordinaire en temps de guerre,explique Mylène Bonnet. C’est une partie de cache-cache avec la mort où hommes, femmes et enfants mettent leurs dernières forces à jouer un sale tour à la guerre. » Ce sale tour, la metteure en scène souhaite lui donner corps sur scène en interrogeant la force de vie qui permet à ceux qui font face au chaos de tordre le cou à la fatalité, de « placer la joie au-dessus de la douleur ».
