Dans l’entretien qu’il avait accordé l’an dernier à La Terrasse, Philippe Avron évoquait le lien qui l’attachait au festival d’Avignon : « J’y suis arrivé en 1960. J’y ai joué dans tous les lieux, tous les endroits. Je suis très attaché à ce festival. Avignon est une ville projetée, la Cour d’honneur a quelque chose de dressé, d’exigeant ! Ces papes devaient avoir une certaine idée de la grandeur ! » C’est peut-être cette « certaine idée de la grandeur » qui faisait que le public ne s’y trompait pas et a toujours et fidèlement suivi Philippe Avron dans ses aventures théâtrales, en troupe, en duo ou en solo. Alain Timar, le directeur du Théâtre des Halles, qui a écrit en exergue de sa programmation estivale une dernière lettre à Philippe Avron, le remarque : « Le public le savait bien, lui qui aimait s’élever avec toi et que tu savais entraîner à vive allure dans une marche de l’intelligence que rien ne pouvait arrêter. » Montée en partenariat
Un des derniers acteurs vilariens
entre l’Association des amis de Philippe Avron, le Festival d’Avignon, la Maison Jean-Vilar, le cinéma Utopia, France Culture, la SACD, le Théâtre des Halles et les CEMEA, la journée du 19 juillet rendra hommage à cet acteur complet, primesautier et malicieux mais aussi profond et grave, ce maître des alchimiques métamorphoses théâtrales qui savait faire naître l’émotion d’un geste, d’un silence retenant la parole, d’un changement de ton ou de regard. Le 19 juillet, on pourra donc « revoir, réentendre et parler de Philippe », comme le dit Jean-Gabriel Carasso, son ami fidèle, qui remarque que c’est « la moindre des choses » d’évoquer encore « un des derniers acteurs vilariens », « amoureux éperdu d’Avignon et de son festival » qui avait un « respect absolu de ce qu’il représente ». « En rendant hommage à Philippe Avron, le festival se rend hommage à lui-même », ajoute Jean-Gabriel Carasso, car « on ne laisse pas partir les gens sans dire qu’ils ont été importants pour nous ».
