« Ces nouvelles voix données à l’orchestre possèdent des qualités rares et précieuses ». Ainsi Berlioz se réjouissait-il de l’apparition d’une nouvelle famille d’instruments, tout juste inventée par Adolphe Sax. Aujourd’hui pourtant, la place du saxophone dans le répertoire classique demeure marginale, alors qu’il est devenu emblématique d’une autre musique, le jazz. Ces « Journées du saxophone » jouent sur les deux répertoires. À la fois rencontre professionnelle (master classes du jazzman Rick Margitza et du saxophoniste classique Kyle Horch) et manifestation grand public, elles verront la création, par Philippe Portejoie et l’Orchestre des jeunes du Conservatoire, du Concerto de Roger Boutry, spécialiste de l’écriture pour orchestre d’harmonie (le 11). Aux côtés de nombreux virtuoses, la jeune génération sera présente avec le rassemblement des ensembles de saxophones des conservatoires d’Île-de-France (le 12) et le concours Saxiana (le 13).
