Né un peu par hasard à Lyon en 1963, Juan Carmona est issu d’une famille originaire de Malaga. Une terre ancestrale qui ne tardera pas à l’aimanter irrésistiblement, avec en ligne de mire la conquête de Jerez de la Frontera en Andalousie, véritable berceau du flamenco. On sait qu’il réussira son audacieux défi en remportant en 1988, quinze ans après avoir reçu en cadeau sa première guitare, le grand prix du concours international de Jerez de la Frontera… Après trois ans de silence discographique, Juan Carmona revient sur le devant de la scène et signe un album assez magistral, « El sentido del aire » (Le Chant du Monde / Harmonia Mundi), marqué par un flamenco épuré et intense. Cette réalisation apparaît à la fois comme la synthèse de son art et une sorte de retour aux sources et aux fondamentaux du flamenco, évoquant par instants la couleur de ses premiers opus. Plusieurs invités prestigieux figurent au casting de l’album : Duquende, Chano Dominguez, Montse Cortes, Joaquin Grilo, Paquete… Autre invité sur la scène de l’Européen : le danseur Rafael de Carmen.
