Ce charmant concert du dimanche après-midi vaut autant pour la fraicheur de son programme que pour la découverte du talent d’un excellent chef espagnol encore méconnu sur les bords de la Seine. Né en 1965, Juanjo Mena est l’un des chefs ibériques les plus demandés en Espagne où il a déjà dirigé tout ce que le pays compte d’orchestres. Il occupe aujourd’hui le poste de directeur musical de l’Orchestre symphonique de Bilbao. Son parcours, patiemment construit à partir de modestes mais formateurs débuts comme chef de chœur, a été profondément marqué par sa rencontre avec le grand chef roumain Sergiu Celibidache. Juanjo Mena déploie aujourd’hui de plus en plus son art sur un plan international comme récemment avec l’Orchestre de Baltimore, à la Scala de Milan ou comme ici avec l’Orchestre National de France. Son programme parisien fait une large place à la musique française avec deux pièces de Jacques Ibert (Bostoniana, une rareté associée au tube Escales), compositeur mal aimé des Français, Tout un monde lointain, le génial concerto pour violoncelle et orchestre de Dutilleux (avec Jean-Guihen Queyras en soliste idéal) et enfin les chatoyantes suites du Tricorne de Manuel de Falla.
