VOIX ET QUATUOR / BOUFFES DU NORD
S’il s’est établi à l’âge classique, avec les œuvres de Haydn et Mozart, le genre du quatuor à cordes a depuis poursuivi son évolution, devenant un terrain d’expression majeur pour les compositeurs romantiques, tel Mendelssohn qui y revient régulièrement. Le Quatuor op. 80, son testament musical, est l’un des plus forts exemples d’expression mélancolique sublimée par l’écriture musicale – le compositeur venait de perdre sa sœur, la compositrice Fanny Mendelssohn. Au début du xxe siècle, l’École de Vienne s’empare à son tour du quatuor : lui adjoignant une voix de soprano, Alban Berg en fait le support d’une expression dramatique remarquable dans sa Suite lyrique de 1926. Interprète de l’œuvre aux côtés du Quatuor Voce, Juliane Banse crée également une version des Sieben frühe Lieder de Berg arrangée pour quatuor à cordes, ainsi que le Premier Quatuor de Graciane Finzi (née en 1945), sur un texte d’Arthur Schnitzler.
