Votre travail questionne de façon récurrente « l’image du corps », la perception que l’on a de soi-même et l’image que l’on cherche à donner aux autres.
En effet, je mets régulièrement en place des dispositifs qui révèlent quelque chose de l’individu et de sa fragilité. Pour Matter, j’ai proposé aux danseuses de porter une robe de papier vouée à disparaître au contact de l’eau. Chacune des robes porte des références sociales, symboliques et intimes qui viennent de nos histoires respectives, et c’est en fonction de notre relation avec l’eau que la robe se dilue, se déchire ou tombe.Le déroulement de ces événements est différent à chaque représentation : la danseuse, contrainte par sa robe, ne maîtrise ni l’arrivée d’eau, ni la façon dont la robe va se désagréger. Notre réaction dans une telle situation est donc plutôt de l’ordre de l’instinct que du savoir-faire de danseuse, même si ce savoir-faire conditionne notre attitude. En outre, un corps couvert d’eau est vulnérable ; il révèle des strates qui souvent restent cachées. C’est une façon de parler des référents qui, tout au long de la vie, nous construisent et nous enferment à la fois, de ces couches qui disparaissent et que d’autres remplacent, sans interruption.

Comment emmène-t-on des interprètes dans une telle recherche ?
Les artistes avec lesquelles je travaille m’ont donné envie de les connaître et de découvrir le contexte dans lequel elles se sont construites, qui a marqué leur corps. Je suis allée travailler avec elles sur leur lieu de vie (Italie, Norvège, Suède, Maroc, Turquie), d’abord pour créer un solo en partant de leurs histoires, de leur cultures, de leur différences mais aussi de nos points communs en tant que femmes, danseuses et chorégraphes. Nous nous sommes ensuite rassemblées pour créerMatter, riches de cette expérience qui a duré deux ans.
Il est rare de voir ainsi des projets qui incluent un très long processus de création, sur des lieux différents…
J’essaie de faire en sorte que la création artistique ne se situe pas uniquement dans la réalisation d’un spectacle. Même si c’est peu visible pour le spectateur, j’aime que le processus de création soit porteur de sens en lui-même. L’infiltration de la danse dans l’espace civique est une question qui sous-tend l’ensemble de mes projets.
