Opéra national de Paris Chorégraphie Mats Ek
Effigies à jamais gravées à fleur de cœur, Roméo et Juliette incarnent depuis des siècles la fougue de l’amour brisé sur les clivages de société. Plutôt que de ressasser la légende, Mats Ek se glisse au revers de l’histoire et livre sa vision des amants de Vérone, qu’il jette dans l’univers sombre d’une ville en crise. Le chorégraphe suédois gratte l’image des personnages pour révéler par la gestuelle l’inconscient qui les travaille au corps. Préférant la partition de Tchaïkovski à celle de Prokofiev, plus couramment utilisée, il a composé pour le Ballet royal de Suède un Juliette et Roméo qui donne toute la truculence sexuelle du texte de Shakespeare et bouscule les rôles. « Il est temps de changer la donne ! » lance-t-il. Et de rappeler : « L’une des premières versions de Shakespeare s’intitulait Juliette et Roméo. D’une certaine manière, c’est un retour aux sources de l’histoire. ». L’écriture chorégraphique exacerbe ici la lutte entre les générations, entre la passion innocente et la violence de l’ordre établi dans une danse qui fait palpiter l’émotion jusque dans les chairs.
