Formé au CNSM de Paris, le jeune chef slovaque a très tôt été remarqué et mis à l’honneur par la scène musicale française, au début des années 2000, en particulier au podium des orchestres de Radio-France et de l’ONDIF. Chef né, doué d’une autorité naturelle et d’une vista musicale impressionnante, Juraj Valčuha est promis à une grande carrière. Ses quatre dernières saisons ont d’ailleurs été marquées par une série d’invitations prestigieuses (du Philharmonia de Londres au Gewandhaus de Leizpig en passant par la Staatskapelle Dresden) et une nomination à la direction musicale de l’Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI (jusqu’en 2013), qui en disent long sur le potentiel de ce jeune surdoué âgé de seulement 35 ans. Un an après sa première invitation à la tête de l’Orchestre de Paris, Valčuha y fait son retour dans des œuvres de Beethoven (Le Roi Etienne, ouverture, op.117) et Mendelssohn (Symphonie n° 3 « Ecossaise »), avec comme complice de choc, le génial Nicholas Angelich dans le Concerto pour piano n° 5 en mi bémol majeur « l’Empereur ». Un casting juvénile de rêve pour un programme « plan-plan »…
