A raison de cinq à huit concerts par soir pendant neuf jours, le JVC Jazz Festival propose comme toujours une affiche impressionnante, alternant superstars mondiales et valeurs montantes du jazz d’aujourd’hui. « Une de nos préoccupations est d’essayer de lancer des artistes en leur proposant une exposition devenue trop rare dans d’autres festivals, de leur mettre le pied à l’étrier pour qu’ils deviennent les futures stars de demain » souligne Jean-Noël Ginibre, directeur de la manifestation. « Il y a un réel besoin de faire éclore une nouvelle génération de « stars » pour préserver cette musique. L’industrie du disque est dans un tel marasme que le « live » doit être là, et sera encore sûrement là pour longtemps. La scène est bien le seul endroit, le seul « happening » que rien ne remplace encore » insiste-t-il. Herbie Hancock ouvre le feu, en sextet le 10 à 20h à la Salle Pleyel, et précède des dizaines de grands talents à découvrir sur de nombreuses scènes parisiennes, du Sunset au Bataclan, du Duc des Lombards à la Cigale : Robin McKelle à la tête d’un septet très cuivré (le 12), le grand maître du British Blues John Mayall (le 15), le (formidable) guitariste Misja Fitztgerald-Michel en quartet avec Ravi Coltrane (le 16), Bireli Lagrène (les 13 et 14), Musica Nuda (le 15), le bluesman Bjørn Berge (le 15) etc…
