Sur les traces de Bernadète Bidaude, Yannick Jaulin, Gérard Potier…, conteurs qu’il envisage comme des aînés bienveillants, Jérôme Aubineau construit des histoires à partir des thèmes qui lui sont chers : le monde de l’enfance, le monde rural, les relations filiales, les vieilles gens, toutes les petites choses du quotidien et leurs dérapages dans l’imaginaire. Ainsi, dans J’veux pas dormir !, Sylvain, un enfant de 8 ans en vacances chez sa grand-mère, finaude pour ne pas aller se coucher. Le lit bouge, il y a une ombre au fond du couloir, une moissonneuse-batteuse sous le matelas de sa grand-mère, l’air triste du grand-père sur la photo accrochée au mur… Pour créer ce spectacle, qu’il s’amuse à qualifier de « péplum en pyjama », Jérôme Aubineau a mélangé des témoignages d’enfants à ses propres fantasmes et souvenirs.
Un « univers cartoon, tendre et surréaliste »
Dans C’est quand qu’on arrive ?, c’est le cousin de Sylvain que nous présente le conteur. Face à un père tantôt fantasmé, tantôt réel, le petit Thomas tente d’exister à son tour aux yeux du monde. « Beaucoup de questions et de thèmes ont guidé ma recherche, confie Jérôme Aubineau : le poids de l’héritage, la difficulté à se construire, la question de la confiance en soi, la peur de décevoir… » Comment se rebeller quand on n’a rien à reprocher à ses parents ? Aux côtés du guitariste Basile Gahon, Jérôme Aubineau interroge ici les notions de filiation et de transmission, de quête d’identité. Par le biais d’un « univers cartoon, tendre et surréaliste », il a élaboré C’est quand qu’on arrive ? comme un passage de témoin entre un père à l’aune de sa vie et un fils en train de bâtir la sienne.
