Héritier, entre autres, de Webern, le compositeur hongrois György Kurtág, né en 1926, se plaît dans nombre de ses œuvres à manier l’aphorisme. Les Kafka-Fragmente, composés en 1985 sur des extraits du Journal et de la Correspondance de l’auteur du Château, répondent parfaitement à cette esthétique, en une quarantaine de fragments oscillant entre le madrigal aux inflexions baroques et l’expressionnisme le plus acéré. Deux interprètes – violoniste et soprano – suffisent à créer une extraordinaire tension dramatique dans cette œuvre qui appelle la pantomime et les mouvements exaltés. Interprète des grandes héroïnes de l’opéra moderne, en particulier de la Lulu de Berg, Maria Husmann défend depuis treize ans les Kafka-Fragmente avec le violoniste Andràs Keller.
