Attiré de longue date par les danses traditionnelles, spécialisé dans les pratiques indiennes telles que le Kathakali, les percussions ou le Kalarippayatt (art martial), Michel Lestréhan revient toujours de ses voyages avec des spectacles très largement inspirés de ces pratiques corporelles. Là, il adjoint à la danse la pratique rituelle du Mandala, que le dessinateur trace au sol à la poudre de riz. La danse s’inscrit ensuite dans l’espace du « Kalam », rejointe par les images vidéo. La terre est explorée par les corps au sol dans une relation de proximité, dont l’exploration peu à peu vient repousser les limites du dessin. Elle est également relayée par le film, rapporté d’Inde et portant au jour des corps enfouis dans la terre ou baignant dans l’eau. Entre performance, arts visuels et danse, Michel Lestréhan propose un voyage presque onirique, aux frontières entre réalité et méditation, comme un rituel des temps modernes.
