Leur première rencontre remonte à l’autre siècle. En 1998, la oudiste Kamilya Jubran est encore la voix de Sabreen, tutélaire formation palestinienne, qui convie la contrebassiste Sarah Murcia, l’une des promesses d’un jazz éclaté et éclatant. Ce sera le début d’une relation durable entre ces deux drôles de dames. Elles n’ont cessé d’échanger, jusqu’à enregistrer Nhaoul’. « Ça a pris dix ans, pour parvenir à poser notre dialogue, à mêler nos univers malgré notre proximité de pensée. Je viens du monde mélodique, Sarah vient plus de l’harmonique. L’horizontal et le vertical, comment faire que cela se croise de façon intelligente, sans aliéner l’un ou l’autre. » Cinq ans plus tard, elles poursuivent ce partage d’idées en conviant trois membres du Quatuor Ixi, afin de construire les bases d’un nouveau répertoire, entre écrit et improvisé.
