Pour peu d’avoir laissé traîner quelques-unes de ses oreilles ou de ses guêtres dans les salles de Paris, de Navarre et autres alternatives ces dix dernières années, on est sûr d’avoir déjà croisé la route de Karpatt. Trio de chanson plutôt acoustique, on retrouve Fred Rollat, héritier de Yan et les Abeilles, aux chant, guitare et accordéon, Hervé Jegousso à la contrebasse, et Gaétan « Gets » Lerat à la guitare, au banjo et percussions. Si les filiations et affinités de style très assumées sautent aux oreilles, des Têtes Raides aux Ogres de Barback, de Debout sur le Zinc à la Rue Ketanou, l’empreinte rock, en filigranne, et l’univers visuel de Sébastien Thomazo, entre art brut et graphisme urbain, constituent intrinsèquement l’aura du groupe.
Poésie de grandes gueules et chansons de l’anecdotique
Au fil des albums, les paroles ont gagné en poésie, narrant moins tout en racontant encore beaucoup, avec une prédilection pour le « on », ce nous social qui ne veut pas payer de mine, et le « tu » de la rue, le tu de l’autre et du lien. Dans ce nouvel album, « Sur le Quai » (sortie le 5 décembre Label du Caillou / l’Autre Distribution), Karpatt aime chanter les gros bras qui ne pleurent pas, les égratignures des anti-héros, avec un hommage pied de nez à Mano Solo, l’un de leurs parrains de musique et de tournées.
