Miles Davis en personne, qui l’engagea dans son groupe, considérait Kenny Garrett comme le saxophoniste le plus impressionnant depuis John Coltrane. Un sacré compliment qui change une carrière ! Kenny Garrett collabora avec Miles Davis de 1989, pour l’album « Amandla », à « Dingo » en 1992, le dernier enregistrement du trompettiste, réalisé avec Michel Legrand… Depuis, Kenny Garrett, adepte d’un jazz volontiers mystique, funky et solaire, multi-grammyawardisé, a évidemment poursuivi sa propre carrière, l’une des plus prestigieuses qui soient… Il vient de signer avec « Pushing The World Away » son dix-septième album personnel, réalisation où semble s’exprimer, à travers une série de onze compositions de sa main, le désir de revenir à l’essence même de sa musique : « J’ai dû me débarrasser de tout ce qui pouvait parasiter mon processus créatif, pour conceptualiser ma musique, et aborder ces nouveaux morceaux comme des dons, des bénédictions », explique-t-il. Il rend au passage hommage à quelques-uns de ses héros, de Chick Corea à Sonny Rollins ou Donald Brown.
