Lorsque commence Kids de Fabrice Melquiot, nous sommes en pleine guerre de Yougoslavie. Durant le siège de Sarajevo, huit enfants orphelins apprennent à vivre, ou plutôt à survivre ensemble. Différences ethniques, religieuses et autres n’ont pour eux pas d’importance : ils forment une sorte de « meute », avec son organisation, ses rêves, ses tensions. Lorsque la guerre s’arrête, il leur faut apprendre à vivre autrement, sans repères. Fondée en 1993 par le metteur en scène François Ha Van, la compagnie Le Vélo Volé s’empare de cette pièce dont la langue poétique, presque surréaliste, contraste avec le récit terre à terre de la guerre. Porté par huit jeunes comédiens, le spectacle nous fait remonter le temps pour traverser avec eux une période passée, qui n’est pas sans évoquer bien des drames présents.
