« Pour l’amour de Dieu, tu peins le diable sur la muraille », aurait dit Alma à son mari Gustav Mahler pendant la composition des Kindertotenlieder (chants sur la mort des enfants). Cette terreur superstitieuse, inspirée par les poèmes de Friedrich Rückert, allait hélas s’avérer avec le décès de leur première fille deux ans plus tard. Il reste que ce cycle vocal de cinq chants fait partie des plus expressifs et lyriques du répertoire. C’est le jeune baryton-basse Edwin Fardini, fraîchement diplômé du Conservatoire national supérieur de Paris, qui s’attaque à ce monument. Il a déjà prouvé, au cours d’un récent récital aux Invalides, qu’il savait allier puissance vocale et intensité musicale. Deux atouts de taille pour son duo formé avec le pianiste Tanguy de Williencourt.
