Dans son Kindertotenlieder créé en 2007, Gisèle Vienne, accompagnée comme toujours par l’écrivain Dennis Cooper, met en scène des émotions troubles, pulsions et fantasmes liés à la mort. Ce « chant des enfants morts », création romantico-gothique, entremêle musique, littérature, performance, arts visuels et danse. Sur la scène, des marionnettes fort belles, comme celle de ces bêtes à tête d’auroch, évoluent dans un paysage enneigé. Fondé à l’occasion de la création de cette pièce, le groupe KTL (Stephen O’Malley & Peter Rehberg) joue son drone doom onirique et sombre, qui suscite un espace vibratoire où se décantent sons artificiels, consonances industrielles et bribes mélodiques. Tout est dérangeant dans cette pièce d’une grande sophistication plastique. Contribuent à cette atmosphère fantasmagorique des créatures masquées à fourrure, les Perchten, poupées de la mythologie autrichienne, qui apparaissent au mois de janvier pour s’emparer des âmes noires. A travers ces personnages étranges, Gisèle Vienne développe toute une réflexion sur le fantasme du corps inaccessible ou idéal, et sur la façon dont il s’insère dans notre imaginaire érotique, à la lisière de la mort et de la répulsion pour l’immobilité.
