Philharmonie / Orchestre de Paris
La Septième Symphonie dite « Leningrad », composée dans la ville assiégée en 1941, est parcourue au long de ses quatre mouvements d’un souffle épique par lequel Chostakovitch fait ressentir violence et effroi, angoisse et espoir. L’œuvre se conclut dans la péroraison d’un orchestre pléthorique, tout l’inverse du Concerto pour violoncelle n° 2 (1966), composé pour Rostropovitch et ici offert à la remarquable Sol Gabetta, qui sonne comme un miroir de l’âme étoilé de contrastes et s’achève au bord du silence. Au même programme (les 30 et 31 mai), Klaus Mäkelä dirige la Suite pour orchestre de jazz n° 2 de Chostakovitch, musiques de danses ironiques, désuètes et entraînantes, puis Le Festin de Balthazar, cantate grandiose, théâtrale et richement colorée de William Walton – excellente initiative du chef finlandais, qui pourra s’appuyer sur le Chœur de l’Orchestre de Paris et celui de l’Université de Cambridge.
