Un art musical né au Moyen Age dans les ghettos de la vieille Europe mais réinventé aux Etats-Unis avec la rencontre entre les phrasés élastiques du jazz et les accents toniques du style yiddish. Depuis près d’un siècle, le klezmer s’est démultiplié, s’acoquinant non sans délices avec les nouvelles musiques, du rock à l’électronique, bouturant des hybrides qui ont permis de recomposer cette formule, tout en gardant l’état d’esprit des origines. Pour en saisir toutes les subtilités, ce festival pas comme les autres propose des concerts mais avant tout plusieurs modules de stages : chant, danse, musique instrumentale… et même une formule dédiée aux Juniors. Soit toute une série de cours, conférences et de master classes, animés par les pointures du genre, venues de tous les horizons. Parmi ceux-ci, relevons Josh Dolgin, DJ et accordéoniste connu sous le sobriquet de Socalled, le virtuose de la clarinette David Krakauer qui délivre du klezmer une vision débridée, la chanteuse et danseuse Shura Lipovsky, appréciée pour ses talents de pédagogue, ou encore le vieil Ukrainien, Arkady Gendler qui a créé une méthode d’enseignement de cette musique qu’il pratique depuis plus d’un demi-siècle.
