C’est à l’occasion d’une résidence à Johannesburg que les membres de la compagnie Wanted Posse entrent en contact avec l’ « académie de danse » fondée dans le township de Soweto par Jerry Zenzile, danseur autodidacte de 24 ans. Cette académie rassemble 40 danseurs âgés de 8 à 21 ans. Les danseurs hip-hop de Wanted Posse découvrent alors la danse développée par ce groupe inattendu : un aller-retour entre la culture urbaine et les danses traditionnelles, qui fait écho aux recherches de Wanted Posse sur le métissage. Le projet Konexion naît alors : huit danseurs, issus des deux compagnies, se livrent à un dialogue corporel : le gumboots (danse percussive exécutée en bottes de caoutchouc, dérivée des pratiques des mineurs sous l’Apartheid) et le pantsula (danse née dans les ghettos) répondent à la breakdance et à la musique house. Une communion par l’écoute du rythme de l’autre.
