Quoi de plus logique que de faire voyager le jazz du continent américain aux terres de ses ancêtres africains ? Le Kora Jazz Trio, en associant percussions, piano et kora, s’inscrit dans un registre de trio des plus classiques, sans fioritures de fusion world ni exotisme voyageur. De leur musique parfaitement swing, la filiation mandingue semble couler de source, de rythmiques latines ou new-yorkaises en sonorités d’Afrique de l’Ouest et de calypso.
Quand la kora s’inscrit dans une tradition afro-américaine
Guidée par le jeu de percus universel de Moussa Cissoko, dialoguant avec le piano fondamentalement jazz d’Abdoulaye Diabaté, la kora de Djeli Moussa Diawara, héroïne en titre, s’adapte avec facilité sur tous ces terrains… Il ne serait pas surprenant de voir la kora devenir un instrument coutumier du jazz, tant elle fraye si bien avec ses cousins occidentaux. L’album « Part III » (Celluloid / Rue Stendhal Diffusion), avec une pochette renouant avec l’imagerie seventies new yorkaise, confirme la place du Kora Jazz Trio dans l’univers du jazz. Une grande réussite.
