« Maman, je n’ai pas réussi. Je n’ai trouvé ni la fortune ni le bonheur à l’étranger… Dans ma valise il n’y a que du linge sale…. Voilà, je t’ai tout dit et je te demande maintenant de me laisser tranquille » : c’est ainsi que Krum, accoutré en texan de carnaval, revient se glisser dans l’insignifiance désespérément plombée de son quotidien. Il retrouve les amis de son quartier de Tel-Aviv, incurables insatisfaits, malades chroniques ou attentistes rêveurs. Et bien sûr sa mère. Depuis son départ pour un improbable ailleurs, rien n’a vraiment changé… Trouda la Bougeotte, son ex-fiancée bien nommée, Tougati l’Affligé, hypocondriaque au cœur sensible, Doupa la Godiche, fleur bleue au goût de mièvre, Shkitt le Taciturne, Takhti le Joyau, Tswitsa la Tourterelle et les inévitables Dulcé et Félicia, parasites qui noient leur dégoût conjugal dans le cognac, etc… Ce petit monde impuissant et geignard tournicote bon an mal an dans sa réalité étriquée, pataugeant dans le fiasco tiédasse de l’existence tout en fantasmant mollement sur d’autres possibles. Face à la trivialité ronchonnante du réel, les uns se réfugient au cinéma pour avaler quelques lampées de « vraie vie », les autres se raccrochent au modèle estampillé conforme du bonheur petit-bourgeois ou s’imaginent crânement aux bras d’une plantureuse décolorée, des biftons plein les poches. Krum l’Ectoplasme, lui, se verrait bien romancier. Encore faudrait-il d’abord qu’il échappe à sa mère et son schéma de normalité sociale… et qu’il écrive !
« Expulsé par une femme, avalé par une autre »
Figure majeure du théâtre israélien, Hanokh Levin (1943-1999), emporté prématurément par un cancer, décrit avec un humour féroce le bourdonnement solitaire de ces êtres englués dans la banalité de la vie. Entre deux mariages ratés et deux enterrements, entre soap et tragique burlesque, il croque le désarroi penaud de cette humanité d’impénitents ringards voués à la médiocrité. En ouvrant le spectacle par la mort de la mère (survenant à la fin dans le texte original), Krzysztof Warlikowski instille d’emblée une tonalité tragique, qui se répand dans les lignes musicales d’une mélodie mélancolique. Le jeu subtil des comédiens, les lumières, la scénographie signée par Malgorzata Szczesniak, les inserts vidéo tournés à Tel-Aviv… façonnent une atmosphère fantomatique, où le réel semble toujours menacer de se déliter. Le metteur en scène polonais extrait les résonances douces-amères de cette pièce écrite en 1974 pour en faire la chronique métaphysique d’une jeunesse empêchée, nombriliste et désenchantée, qui n’ose rendre le risque de vivre, d’aimer vraiment, de partir s’il faut : symptôme d’une époque où la femme maquettée au format pétasse internationale sur papier glacé sert d’icône, où l’idéal se fond dans les chimères clinquantes du matérialisme. Un monde sans transcendance, ni pardon, ni salut. Probablement sans amour véritable.
