La version parisienne de son concert-anniversaire prend naturellement place en ouverture de la saison de l’Orchestre National de France. Un orchestre qu’il dirige pour la première fois en 1973 et à la tête duquel il est nommé Directeur musical en 2002. Masur perçoit la musique comme un élixir de jeunesse, présente tout au long de son existence, accompagnant les joies autant que les épreuves. Selon lui, la musique peut et doit agir sur le monde comme une force spirituelle positive, source de mieux-être, véritable force guérissante. Cette vision positive de la musique prend tout son sens dans un programme romantique et solaire, partagé entre Mendelssohn (ouverture de Ruy Blas et Concerto pour violon et orchestre n° 2 en mi mineur, avec Joshua Bell en soliste) et Dvorak (Symphonie n° 9 en mi mineur op. 95 “Du Nouveau Monde”).
