Le compositeur Arnaud Petit (né en 1959) s’était fait remarquer il y a quelques années en proposant une improbable adaptation lyrique d’un texte de Georges Perec, Cantatrix Sopranica L. Attiré par les défis et les questionnements que porte le travail musical pour la scène, il s’attaque aujourd’hui à La Bête dans la jungle, l’une des plus fascinantes nouvelles d’Henry James, effrayante observation des comportements humains. Marguerite Duras, qui en avait saisi le potentiel dramatique, avait adapté l’œuvre pour le théâtre. C’est cependant un livret original que Jean Pavans, traducteur d’Henry James, a fourni ici au compositeur, qui a travaillé la partie électronique de l’œuvre aux studios Césaré de Reims. François-Xavier Roth dirige cette création à la tête de l’orchestre Les Siècles.
