Après 25 ans de festival, son directeur, Guy Darmet, se pose la question du chemin parcouru, et interroge la façon dont les œuvres actuelles sont liées à l’histoire de la danse ou aux traditions. Un thème fondamental que l’on retrouve donc dans la programmation toujours plus riche de la Biennale. Retour en avant, c’est également le titre d’une pièce de Michel Hallet Eghayan créée en 1983. La présence de cette œuvre qui revient sur les rapports musique/danse est d’autant plus riche de sens aujourd’hui que son auteur est l’un des fondateurs de la Maison de la Danse. José Montalvo et Dominique Hervieu entretiennent quant à eux un tout autre rapport à la musique, à travers leur dernière pièce, Gershwin. Voguant entre culture savante et populaire, à travers des clins d’œil aux années folles, les chorégraphes s’emparent des références et du contexte dans lesquels évoluait Gershwin pour un grand ballet de musique, de danse, et d’images.
Beaucoup de compagnies en création mondiale à Lyon
La venue de la Companhia Urbana de Dança est l’occasion de deux créations pour la Biennale : l’une avec Mourad Merzouki, dont la Biennale 2006 fut une belle opportunité pour une première rencontre entre le chorégraphe et les danseurs brésiliens. L’autre avec Sonia Destri fondatrice de la compagnie. Parmi les autres premières données à Lyon, on note une grande diversité : Memory est une création de Wen Hui, chorégraphe chinoise qui développe son travail en lien avec le multimédia. Aux frontières de tous les continents, Frank Micheletti donne également à Lyon la première de sa toute nouvelle création (voir notre article). Un foisonnement d’identités en mouvement, à l’image de cette Biennale.
