Mathieu Desseigne-Ravel fait partie du collectif d’acrobates NaïF Production qui s’est donné pour mission de mettre en danse la gravité du monde. Il aime se présenter comme artisan du plateau plutôt que comme artiste. Dans La chair a ses raisons, il sculpte la sienne, nue, qui se laisse voir en clair-obscur sur fond noir. Bougeant avec une grande finesse chacun de ses muscles, c’est l’étrangeté d’un Francis Bacon qu’il convoque bien plus que les lignes réalistes d’une étude d’Auguste Rodin. L’interprète, l’humain, disparait pour n’être qu’un amas de chairs, provoquant une émotion qui se situe entre attraction et répulsion. « Si le spectateur sort en se disant, j’ai douté de la nature des choses sur lesquelles mon regard s’est porté, voilà̀̀ qui me va très bien » confiait-il à Thomas Hahn en mars 2018.
