« Chaque jour, un peu plus de sel dans la plaie… » Ce n’est pas la cicatrice qui fait souffrir, puisqu’elle est justement la preuve marquante que le mal est passé, mais plutôt le regard que les autres portent sur elle et l’occasion qu’ils y trouvent de prouver par le sarcasme indélicat qu’ils n’ont jamais eu à affronter la douleur dont ils se rient. Toutes les gueules cassées en attestent, de Gwynplaine à Elephant man : on ne sait pas regarder les yeux et l’âme de ceux dont le visage est cabossé. Le personnage inventé par Bruce Lowery est une sorte de petit frère de ces héros malheureux. Vincent Menjou-Cortès interprète ses confessions douloureuses et le récit des humiliations subies par Jeff qui, à treize ans, doit faire face à la bêtise et à la méchanceté qui défigurent le visage de ceux qui se moquent du sien.
