De Paroles et musique de Morton Feldman au Viol de Lucrèce de Britten en passant par l’Empereur d’Atlantis de Viktor Ullmann, la saison qui s’achève au Théâtre Louis Jouvet n’aura pas été avare de redécouvertes. C’est encore le cas ici avec ce programme français, proposant l’association de La colombe, opéra-comique de Gounod composé en 1860, et de la « complainte » beaucoup plus dramatique Le Pauvre Matelot conçue par Darius Milhaud en 1927 sur un livret de Jean Cocteau. « Deux univers radicalement opposés… Darius Milhaud et Charles Gounod sont l’antinomie, l’inverse, le négatif, le creux, le contraste, l’opposé, l’antipode, l’antithèse l’un de l’autre et pourtant, ils rassemblent ici en deux pièces distinctes, des condensés d’humanité. Comme l’ombre révèle la lumière, le mariage de ces deux œuvres expose tout à trac la tragédie humaine. L’exercice de style est intrigant, il faut s’y plonger tout entier, sans retenue, jouer la différence, accepter la disparité. La Colombe expose, sans pudeur les chaînes de l’amour, l’enfermement de l’amoureux. Le Pauvre Matelot a la beauté brute d’une tragédie sans appel. » selon Stéphane Vérité qui signe la mise en scène des deux ouvrages, avec le concours de Claude Schnitzler à la direction musicale, l’Orchestre Lamoureux et les jeunes chanteurs de l’Opéra Studio de l’Opéra du Rhin.
