La pièce de jeunesse shakespearienne, la Comédie des erreurs, est une mise en abyme avec jeu de miroirs vertigineux, provoquant une démultiplication des identités à l’infini. Égéon, un riche marchand de Syracuse, raconte ses malheurs au duc Éphèse. Père de jumeaux identiques nommés Antipholus, il a acheté à une pauvre femme les jumeaux Dromio afin qu’ils soient au service de ses fils. Au cours d’un naufrage survenu vingt-trois ans auparavant, les quatre enfants sont séparés. Seront-ils réunis à nouveau ? Peut-être, mais après bien des quiproquos, méprises et situations cocasses invraisemblables. La pièce est un feu d’illusions que se plaît à concevoir le metteur en scène Dan Jemmett, défenseur d’un « théâtre de jubilation ». Après Presque Hamlet et après Shake d’après la Nuit des Rois, l’homme de théâtre ne boude pas Shakespeare, il prend plaisir plutôt à sa fréquentation en bousculant les attendus. Humour bristish, jeux de mots, calembours, Jemmet réveille la scène.
