Si on ne compte plus les versions du Sacre prises à bras-le-corps par les chorégraphes depuis sa création – vécue en 1913 comme une œuvre quasi injouable et indansable –, on comprend vite la pertinence de celle-ci dans l’œuvre d’Israel Galván. Ce virtuose du zapateado, qui n’est rien d’autre qu’un grondement provenant des entrailles de la terre, a naturellement trouvé en la partition de Stravinsky une formidable caisse de résonnance à son art. Rajoutons à cela la figure de Nijinski et son geste de bras et de main faunesque que l’on retrouve depuis toujours dans la gestuelle du danseur sévillan, et la connexion est indiscutable !

Le catalyseur du projet a été sans nul doute la grande pianiste et compositrice Sylvie Courvoisier, qui a déjà collaboré avec Israel Galván pour La Curva. C’est sur son piano, en off, que se révéla pour lui la puissance du Sacre. La Consegracion de la primavera devient alors, plusieurs années après, un solo accompagné au piano par Sylvie Courvoisier et Cory Smythe dans une réduction à deux mains, suivi d’une composition originale de la pianiste. Israel Gálvan s’en donne à cœur joie pour faire voir et entendre le son de ses pas. Mais, plus encore, la pièce s’hybride sur la vie et l’œuvre de Nijinski, dans laquelle se glisse avec délices le danseur.
