À l’intention de ceux qui sont séduits par le talent mélodique de Léo Delibes, tel qu’il se manifeste dans ses partitions de ballet Coppélia ou Sylvia ou dans son opéra Lakmé, la Compagnie des Brigands a eu la bonne idée de ressusciter La Cour du Roi Pétaud. Œuvre de jeunesse due à un compositeur de trente-trois ans qui mettait alors ses pas dans ceux d’Offenbach (en cette même année 1869 étaient créés Les Brigands), cet opéra bouffe en trois actes révèle l’aisance de son auteur à allier finesse et légèreté. Directeur musical de cette production, Christian Grapperon souligne le fait que Léo Delibes « fait parler l’orchestre de la même façon qu’il fait chanter le théâtre ». Avec l’aide de Thibault Perrine pour l’orchestration, et d’une distribution de jeunes chanteurs-acteurs emmenés par Rodolphe Briand, il rend ses couleurs à ce joyau d’humour.
