« Alors que l’on se préoccupe depuis quelque temps déjà des conséquences sinistres des déchets industriels et domestiques (…), nous n’avons pas encore pris conscience des effets à long terme de la masse croissante du déchet humain sur lʼéquilibre politique et social de la coexistence humaine planétaire. » déplore Zygmunt Bauman, dans Le présent liquide. Aussi sinistre soit le constat, « il a raison » note Thierry Bédard, qui trace au fil des ans les dérives du capitalisme moderne et pointe la défaite du politique comme volonté et faculté d’imposer à l’action une orientation et un objectif. Poursuivant son cycle d’« exercices et menaces, une suite d’études scientifiques où sʼaccorde le divertissement de société à la violence des idées », il puise matière à réflexion dans les analyses rayées d’ironie du sociologue et évoque le sort des êtres en surnombre qui, rejetés, exclus, ne peuvent plus rien faire de leur existence. Toujours sur le qui-vive, le metteur en scène ne craint pas d’attraper l’époque au collet, pour faire du théâtre un art « par nécessité en révolte ».
