Krapp est un vieillard vif et marginalisé, un clown amer mi-figue mi-raisin,
une figure grotesque de cirque, qui aime ? via les bandes magnétiques
enregistrées ? faire retour sur son passé afin de mieux comprendre l’existence
ou tout du moins, sa propre vie. Sans apitoiement ni complaisance, sans la
moindre trace de sentimentalité, en usant d’un verbe volontairement ironique,
satirique et sarcastique. Ainsi, Krapp bougonne : « Viens d’écouter ce pauvre
petit crétin pour qui je me prenais il y a trente ans, difficile de croire que
j’ai été con à ce point-là. » Certains voient dans ce chaos des relations
humaines qu’incarne Beckett à travers l’acteur Chabert, un fauve, un animal
traqué par son ombre propre, la figure ultime du philosophe. Ce spectacle
incontournable est joué dans le monde entier, inlassablement, toujours juste et
vrai.
