Après avoir dirigé la reprise de Didon et Enée de Purcell à l’Opéra Comique, William Christie aborde un autre ouvrage inspiré de l’Enéide de Virgile : La Didone de Cavalli. Pour interpréter cet opéra à la charnière entre Renaissance et Baroque, créé en 1641, le chef des Arts florissants s’est entouré d’une équipe vocale plus qu’alléchante : Kresimir Spicer, Anna Bonitatibus, Claire Debono, Xavier Sabata… Des chanteurs fidèles de Christie qui évolueront dans une mise en scène de Clément Hervieu-Léger. Ce proche collaborateur de Patrice Chéreau signe ici sa première mise en scène d’opéra, dans une scénographie d’Eric Ruf, décidément familier du Théâtre des Champs-Elysées où il vient de réaliser les décors de Don Pasquale de Donizetti.
