« Regarder encore Israel Galván danser ses immobilités, faire des arrêts une figure ». Le philosophe et historien d’art Georges Didi-Huberman condense en quelques mots la fascination qu’exerce Israel Galván, et surtout l’état qui s’empare du spectateur face à cette danse magistrale : toujours en alerte, on guette le mouvement de hanches, le claquement de doigts, la suspension soudaine. Entouré d’un chanteur et d’un guitariste, il nous invite avec La Edad de Oro (créé en 2005) à poursuivre cette expérience de regard, où l’on cherche à percer ce qui fait l’intensité de cette danse paradoxale, toute en puissance et pleine de retenue. « La Edad de Oro » signifie « l’Age d’or ». On désigne ainsi, dans l’histoire du flamenco, la période glorieuse qui s’étend de la fin du XIXe siècle aux années 1930 : c’est l’occasion pour le danseur de revisiter les pas et les rythmes les plus virtuoses. Mais, transcendant les traditions qu’il maîtrise à la perfection, Israel Galván rappelle surtout que l’or n’a pas d’âge.
